idiot need's advice on a camcorder

which camcorder to buy? not a professional. i intend to shoot the dogs and the kids.

most digital camera have a movie function. whats the main difference between a digital camera and a camcorder.

is it worth to buy A HD, consider we still have tube tvs at home.

how many hours of footage on a 16gb flash memory card. assuming i'll be shooting 1,280x720 at 24 fps.

tapes or flash memory. i assume hard drives are too heavy and sucks up too much electricity???

willing to spend to money if i need to.

YouTube or DVD?

When I bought my camcorder, I was told to get a 3CCD device with good optics and image stabilizer. Ended up getting a Panasonic at that time which is still producing very decent stuff.

If you're going to store to DVD, don't bother with flash or memory or disk based stuff. Get a good digital tape based camcorder. That way you can capture at high res and then degrade down to whatever you want to store to or if you want to upload to youtube.

I'll let the camera geeks take over....

Use tape!

3CCD.

Panasonic or Canon are very good. They both have very nice 'affordable' 3CCD High-Def camcorders now. You might want to upgrade your tv though.

Sounds very drastic! What did they do to you!?

I went through this dilemna also and was pointed towards tape over and over again even though HD based seems like a logical solution. The cd/dvd based ones are no use because I use a Mac to edit and the mini cd's are only practical if you have a cd tray on your computer!
I like the look of the Sanyo Xacto E1 though!
