| Had an Job Interview - how would you rate my changes? Hello, i am a good poster today ;-) But i am so excited at the moment to get as much informations i can. Hope you people dont mind. My Story, i had a Job interview last Monday, which should actually only last an hour - then if succesfull another one on Friday. I had the interview the whole day on monday, had a test to finish and had a good talk with the boss and the department officer as well as the person from the HR - Team. Went even for a quick lunch with the boss. The Boss had to leave hongkong for some time, so maybe they did want to finish it all in one go - thats why no interview necessary on friday. What we agreed, was that both parties will give it a thought and i should contact them in the next days via phone to tell them my decision. I did call and - i hoped - that i would get theire decision as well. But once i told them that i would be glad to take that position. They said they have to double check with the boss - as only he can decide and also give a number for the sallary. I am not sure anymore if that is good or bad. Actually we did talk already about, when i would be able to start (cause the boss and department officer will be together on a business trip), and also the working permit had to be done before i start (they already asked if i can provice some documents and so on and calculated when it would be done , and i am ready to start working legally for them)... When we talked about that stuff, i was pretty confident that i get the job. What are your guys thoughts? Any experience you have? Would be happy to receive some, hopefully cheery comments. |

| What job is it for? One point though interviewers ask all interviewees when they would be able to start. Do you know whether they are interviewing other people or not? Last edited by Trebor; 28-08-2008 at 06:18 PM. |

| @Trebor The interview was for a position as "Business Development Junior Manager" I am not sure, but i would think they dont interview more now - as the responsible persons are going to be out of the country in the next weeks. I am aware that they ask all people when they would be able to start. But for me they already checked the time shedule and so on , including the time it would take to get the working permit. I dont know maybe just my hope that that means something positive... @Boris very helpfull, and by the way i am not quite sure if your reply makes any sense at all ! | Well, all is not necessarily lost. I have just recently found a job in HK, at an international comany, while sitting here in South Africa. The whole process was rather chaotic. My resume was redirected to them, via their Dubai office. The very first communication I received from them was a written job offer, complete with letter of employment, which I had to sign and send back to them! When I managed phoned the director, (which took a couple of days, as he runs around a lot), he asked me what exactly it is that I do! Right, good time to ask that question... He personally sent me the job offer a few days before.Even now, I'm waiting for my work visa, which is on its way to me, via courier, but I still don't know when I'll actually fly. They have asked me when would be convenient for me, and I've answered, twice, yet they have not yet confirmed it. Considering that I must relocate myself, wife and two kids to the other side of the planet, in the next 2 or 3 weeks, it would be rather convenient to have a date. From both my own experience, and what I've read on here and another forum, it seems to be the way things are done in HK - at least regarding their HR departments. Also, the job that I got, was never actually advertised on their website, while there are several other jobs there. Last edited by ebow3d; 30-08-2008 at 05:28 PM. |

| that sounds indeed a little crazy ! Hope it works out for you ! Thats my only hope - that they still consider me - just maybe for another position. Maybe you keep me updated on your situation - i will do the same - if we both get lucky we might meet soon for a couple of drinks in Hong Kong ;-) cheers |

| Yes, I've actually got the job, have signed the contract and sent it back. The work permit has been approved, it is being couriered to me currently. It should arrive here within the next 2 or 3 days. Then I'll phone them and get them to buy the plane ticket. But, as I said, the process was not very clear and organised, but I should be in HK by mid September. Hope yours work out. Where are you from? Are you currently in HK? |

Do you get the position, only by sending your application and then got a phone interview? I.e. you don't need to do interview in person and take some test? Thanks Last edited by keylogger; 31-08-2008 at 02:55 AM. |
