Gentlemen, can I propose we resolve this arguement over a pint of beer tonight 7:30pm at the White Stag on Lockhart Road in Wan Chai. We can start our Geeks and Beer gatherings.

I will be there.

All iPhone owners are welcome!

As much as I'd love to I'm stuck in some little cowboy town up on't other side of the border. So nearest I'll get is a KTV somewhere, but I'll raise a glass all the same while mamasan's try forcing their farm rejects on me.......

There hasn't been an update for the P1 in a long time.

LKF = pricey, noisy.

The Whitestag provides a great environment to talk in. You can even take any technical arguement you have an resolve it bare fist on the pavement outside too.

I own a Mac, some of my most technically-savvy colleauges and friends own Macs (people who can design kernals, develop trading software for ibanks or run tech venture capital funds). None of us feel a need to attack or defend the company. Having a deep emotional investment in a bleedin' computer company is just a little immature.

This thread would be much more interesting and informative without dragging the dead horse out for another beating.
Whoa, whoa, whoa there JGL. Slow down, son. Put down that 6th cup of coffee or re-attach your pacemaker. It's not worth the coronary trouble. As for what you've got to say, you're quite right, the emotional attachment to either platform (or strong dilike for the other) is quite ridiculous. I thought I pretty much agreed with your sentiment that it's horses for courses and an un-winnable argument.

Whether or not I should have bought up Apple is also contentious, since then OP opens up his post with:

"Ok well after being heckled a few times by the submissive slaves of Apple products".

Seems like everyone here has a strong opinion (like Boris) and that's great. And like KIA says, some people want design, some people want QWERT. Fantastic. But at the end of the day, our opinions are almost meaningless. What counts is what you buy. The market will decide which products are good and which are not. For those that like iPhone, great, go buy one. If you don't like iPhone, also great - buy something else. It'll all sort itself out through the cash register.

Man, I agree with you. Not sure where you're coming from.

gaz

You are right it is what you buy.

I always buy top of the range phones which cost HK$5K plus when they are launched, but I buy them second hand about 2 years after they have been launched. By then all the firmware issues have (or not) been solved. You have large user base and the concensus on whether phone is any good has been reached. You can also see the availability of firmware updates, how many bugs it has. You avoid the hassle of changing phones more frequently, using mediocre of buggy software, when you get a phone it is solid, it just works.

My advice: Never buy a new phone, never by a low end or middle of the road phone - buy the star products of the company once it is proven. Of course buy a phone where you can replace and add or replace half of the software and customize it to your liking.

For those that don't know me and want to come to the white stag, I am dressed all in black with white stripes on my shirt.

I would say its neither of the above.
Having used it for a while now my main use for it is to surf the net at work as it saves me from lugging a laptop around when I need to access sites thats blocked on the firewall.

I also use it for streaming internet radio as I have an unlimited dataplan, Its more preferable to use than my other phone the HTC touch dual.

I'm happy with it and it does what I want it to do and itunes in hk sucks as previously mentioned and I don't use it as an mp3 player as I have a Sony NWZ for that as windows media player is currently so much more user friendly.

Do I regret buying it? The answer to that is No
Can I live without it? The answer to that is Yes.

Just my few pennies worth.
