i think there might be some cruises that would take them from hk to singapore. best bet would be to find a GOOD travel agent and see if they can find anything for you.

there are cruises from HK to SG but i think most (if not all) are not a direct journey. There will be stops along at the way at different countries before it stops at Singapore.

Look around for specialist agencies that do freighter travel. Its a popular option with Europeans.... and there might be something available between SGP and HKG.

A number of private yachts also sail down that way from time to time. You might want to ring up the yacht clubs and see if they could point you towards somebody. No idea if they take passengers though! If your friend is rich they could probably charter a boat, but it'd be mighty expensive!
