Company Proposal

All,

Your input on this would be greatly appreciated.

I may be moving to HK this year to setup / open a branch office of our company.

This is their proposal:

£50k GBP basic
£1500 monthly housing allowance (gross)
£2500 one-off to assist with moving costs
Company medical cover

Is that sufficient for myself and my wife to live on? We're coming from London and I currently earn the same salary (minus the housing allowance, etc).

Cheers.

for that salary, you can live more comfortable than in london as the cost of living is lower, though the standard of living is very comparable tp london

One big point to note though...instead of the 40% tax in London, you'll enjoy less than 20% here...

Rent is the biggest chunk here (much more expensive than London but with your allowance, you'll be fine...it should cover two 3rd of the rent up to the whole rent depending of where you want to live)

So overall, you'll get more money covering up for you and your wife...and with a housing allowance, you guys will be able to enjoy HK and visit Asia.

Thanks for the replies. The company is "financial services / financial software". I am hoping to push for more cash or maybe a flight home for each of us each year. Or a month in a serviced apartment until we find a place of our own.

EUChinese is an unknown quantity at this point.
No,actually rent expenses is lower in HK than in London, beside that I don't think they need to pay council tax / TV Licence / 17.5% VAT in HK. no doubt about you will be better off earning £ and spending in HK. I would say cost of living in HK is around 30% lower than in London.
