| | | Visa (Working/Staying/Dependent Visa) Hey All!
I'm new to this forum.
Just wanted to know a few things.
I am Malaysian and my girlfriend is from HK.
I was thinking of applying for a Dependent Visa. Can someone tell me exactly what does this Dependent Visa do?
Plus, I have my own place to stay in HK. Would this make the application easier?
Thanks! | |

| | | You have to be married for the dependant visa.
If you're dependant on a permanent resident, you can work.
The person you're dependant on, should be able to support you -- either through their own income or existing funds.

| | | Hello All
I too am new to this site, and have a question on the same issue. To apply for a dependant visa, do you this in HKG or in your own country of resident before coming over?

| | | The person who you are going to be dependant on, has to apply, if they're overseas they need to apply overseas, if they're already in HK, they can apply here.
Also, if the person applying is being sponsored by a local company, the company that applies for the work visa can submit the dependant's visa at the same time from what I gather.
Pretty painless process as long as you're married and of different genders.

I'm also in the middle of looking for a job in HKG as well (in Investment Banking) , as my husband already has an offer. I know all this is probably due to timing, but if I can secure a job before I go, then I should have my own working visa, but if we go and I have interviews lined up, then I go on an depenant visa. I've also tried to ask my bank internally so the visa issue is minimised, but there are no vacancies yet in the HKG office, hence I'm now trying external agencies. Any further advice?

Umm... buy high sell low ... or is it sell high buy low? Err .. something like that.
Back on topic... Hong Kong remains one of the easiest places to work and live. Local immigration is far easier to deal with the most asian, european and definately north american countries. As long as you're not gaming the system, you'll be ok.

| | | On another point, are there any restrictions to the dependant visa? Can I look for work at the same time (as my current HR dept in HKG said 'NO, you cannot work on this type of visa)? And, if I should be successful in securing a job, does this automatically convert to a working visa - is this something the company I'm joing gets involved with? Cheers | |
