Sounds like an exotic gambling scenario. One of those, where if you don't understand it, avoid it.

wats hsbc eli ? eli offered by hsbc, or eli offered by anyone with a hsbc underlying ? u are not clear in your question.

Freeier-one good example for u would be "HSBC HOLDING " eli offered by hsbc. Anyway just want to see what people think ELI in general. As im "starting" to do my research on it and just want to start in the right direction.

of cos diff RM sell it to u with different fees. so generic statement are hard to answer

Indeed, definitely a case of caveat emptor. Implied exposure might or might not match what you want/need, so make sure to understand exactly what you are buying.
Also, and this is generalizing, there are typically loads of embedded fees which you don't see (one of the reasons why sales people/RMs are given such a nice commission on these structured products).
