Getting married in HK

Me and my partner were wondering if both people getting married need to go the registry and book the marriage, or can one come along with all the personal details?

The reason being my girlfriend works full time and would prefer if I book the marriage.

I hold a British passport and she's a HK resident. We've been together for four years (3 of those years in the UK) and are also wondering a few other things:

1.) What documents do we specifically need to bring?

2.) How much do we need to pay to register and book the marriage on the day?

3.) When and how should I apply for a dependency visa to work in HK?

4.) Are there any legal cases where a dependency visa would be refused to work in HK? Such as lack of work expererience, qualifications, etc?

You haven't looked very hard for the information have you! Only one of you initially has to go and book the ceremony but it is advisable that 2 of you actually turn up for it.........

All you need to know, lovingly provided by the Immigration department here: http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/bdmreg_4.htm

Dependancy visa information can be found on same website, but I'll help you along a little more.......you can apply after you are married!

I had my dependent visa with permission to work within 6 weeks of applying.

The documentation of the marriage (things like old photos, correspondence, whatever)was important, but far more important seemed to be the bank statement showing sufficient funds for her to 'support' my stay.

Overall the process was quite easy! Cheers!

1. your passport, your gf's hkid, certificate of no marriage which you will get from your country.

2. i forgot the fee, but not much. and upon filing the application for intended marriage, wait for 15days, they will post it in public so if anyone is against the wedding, they can protest. they will actually tell you when to come back for follow-up if your application is approved or not.

3. after you got married and have the marriage certificate, you can apply the day after. as long as your documents are complete.

4. if your sponsor is a hk permanent resident, born or raised in hk and has the ***AZ or *** code in their hkid, you can work upon getting your hkid. but if your sponsor acquired their hkid and right of stay in hk through employment or business, you need to tell the immigration that you are planning to work because they will change your details in their file.
