Where to live near Central? My wife and I (just married) are moving to HK in September. She and I are both corporate lawyers, and will both be working in Central - she in Landmark, me in the Hong Kong Club building. We are looking for a comfortable two-bedroom apartment for no more than HK$60k per month, but the list of options is a bit overwhelming! We would really appreciate any suggestions for which areas we should focus our search in, which agents we should use or handy websites etc. Can anyone help? Apart from the price, the main criterion is that we should like to be able to walk to work.

Your budget will definitely allows you to have plenty of options even in Central itself. Assume that you do not have kids as you did not specify the size of unit as well. I did my search initially when I came to HKG and felt that the site Hong Kong Property and Apartment, for Rent and for Sale - Hong Kong Realty very easy to look at as it gives you a good indication of budget and photos too. After that, you can let your agent knows what you like. Also somewhere near the soho escalator will be convenient to walk to. Perhaps you can look at Robinson road, Caine Road, Bonham Road area. One can reach central or IFC by walk within 20-30 mins with the escalator or even mini-bus which is convenient but can be crowded in the morning. All the best.

A lot of Central workers live in Soho/mid-Levels. have a look around there on Hong Kong Property Real Estate, Property for Sale, Lease and Rent - GoHome.com.hk

Alternatively you can buck the trend, save some money for your newly married life and go somewhere a little further out which is nicer! Say Discovery Bay, Sai Kung, Sham Tseng, Gold Coast, Kowloon etc etc. You get more space for less money in these places and HK is so small travel times are tiny compared to most major cities.

partly i was interested to know if there is another shuttle going from the gold coast, but mostly I would have highlighted that actually non-gold coast resident's are not supposed to take the gc shuttle - so if anyone moves into aegean coast and relies on the shuttle they could be in for a rude awakening! recently they have been actually enforcing their rules about asking where you live when handing out tickets. They double-checked last time when I said I lived in the marina and it seemed to be ok, but I was worried that they were going to exclude us too! so worth checking anyone who is thinking of moving here. to be honest, the 962 is almost as good a service - and possibly better outside peak hours.
