Problem with Broadband and router

Hello,

I have just recieved my broadband and NowTV connection 2 days ago.

I wish to use one of my own routers tho, since the signal of the WiFi is pretty low and because i don't want to pay for something i already have (don't need the netvigator router, got 2 already).

I got 2 routers at my disposal, both LinkSYS :
- WAG54G (ADSL Gateway)
- WRTG54G (router)

Planned connections are the NowTV decoder, one desktop pc by network cable, and 3 laptops over WiFi.

I was wondering if anyone knows someone here who can configure a network for me and if so how much it would cost.

Thanks a lot !

Greets,
Skulleye

hmm - should be fairly simple to set up yourself. My hubby did ours. NOW modem thing that they give you is plugged into the wall. Your router is plugged into the NOW modem thing. Your pc is plugged into your router. Rest of the pc's pick up the wireless. The routers normally have some sort of 'self setup' software that came with them than you then run on the pc which is connected via the cable.

Actually reading this post I don't think you will find it that helpful! It did take us a while to get it to work! The NOW TV bit was fine, as was the wired pc, but the wireless ones needed the wireless setup done right and we had done that in the previous house so did not need to do it again.

Anyway, I'm going to give up now and let somebody better experienced help!

My suggestion; do it step by step.
1) Get your TV working
2) Get one wired PC working
3) What is left is setting up your wireless router properly

But I do not have experience with NOW so someone who does might want to chip in

Thanks for the 2 answer although they didn't help me any further :P
Well the thing is with just the netvigator router everything is working.

but i can't get anything to work at all if i put another router in it.
i don't want to have to buy/rent the netvigator router and the signal is too weak on WiFi.

Doesn't anyone know someone in Hong Kong who configures networks or so ?

You cannot use any DSL gateway except the one supplied by PCCW.

The NOW box must plug directly into the PCCW DSL modem/gateway. You can't plug a NOW box into your own router.

Otherwise everything should be fine using the WRTG54G, and not hard to do.

Besides, if you've signed up for NOW you've already signed up for their router, you will not gain anything by trying to give it back!

But are you sure that if you give it back they waive the fee? I know when I signed up for our NOW service that although some stuff was free for a while, the contract period was quite long and you could not get out of it early.

I've done this and used the same Linksys WRT54G router. Ask away and save some $s.
