Visiting Shenzen

Hi All,

I am visiting shenzen this weekend and am planning to go to the Windows of the world and Splendid China. Can anyone tell me what will be the cost of the entry ticket to both of them.

Moreover, are there any dos and donts for visiting shenzen especially when I dont know Mandarin.

Thanks,
Vikram

i went to splendid china/cultural villages last november. i recall it was 100 or 150 rmb, not sure anymore. i guess windows of the world would be something similar to the above.. but from what i've heard it's kind of crap.

i've never been around shenzhen besides the shopping area near the border crossing so can't really help you with that. dunno whether you speak cantonese? i don't speak mandarin as well but some (crappy) cantonese and managed to get around fine with that.

I recently went there end of last month for a friends wedding. Interesting place. Drove pass windows of the world, didn't go in cause it was raining. My friend is currently living there, been there for 6 months.

Be very careful when you're crossing the road, also even when you're walking on the pavement. There is lack of driving discipline. Even bikes ride on the pavement.

Always keep your belongs close to your body ideal at the front. Don't have a backpack/rack-sack on your back, people there don't pick-pocket, now-a-days, they just use a knife and cut the bottom of your bag. I was only there for 4 days and have seen cars driving down the wrong way ie towards you, missing there juctions and just reversing back (even on highway), people walking on highway.... At night, been on guard, as they have bikes that are electric so you can't hear one coming behide you if they were bag snatcher. Overall, I enjoyed my stay, very good experience. All I need to do is learn mandarin and hoping to visit there again.

Anything else you wanna know, give me a shout and I'll ask my friend.

Entry costs Y100-150 pp.
BTW both are served by underground stations.
Huaqiao Cheng for Splendid China / Folk Culture Villages
Shijie Zhi Chuang for Window of the World
Bring your own food and drink unless you want to try the ethnic food in Splendid China / Folk Culture Villages as costs are higher inside.

Also a one year multiple entry ticket to Splendid China / Folk Culture Villges is Y300 plus photo.

Hi All,

I had been to Shenzen on the saturday and it was a very good experience. The metro station just outside the immigration will take you to the windows of the world and that place is really amazing. Especially the Taj Mahal. I am amazed by the way they have constucted all the miniatures and the miniatures are actually not that mini.

Thanks for your advices.

Regards,
Vikram

I haven't been at the "Window of the World" since 1997. I wonder if they have added anything new

Vikram,

Which train station is close to Windows of the World? Was it easy to get there? How was the train? Safe?

Vikram, do you remember the name of the subway station outside the Folk Cuture Village?

My first visit ever into China was Shenzhen... boy, what a misguided first impression that left. To say there's a lack of driving discipline is putting it VERY kindly.

Hi Guys,

I only visited the windows of the world. You have to take the metro/subway and get down at the last stop. The name of the station is Shijie Zhi Chuang. The trains were very safe. Full of police (who can even speak english). I am going back to Shenzhen this weekend for visiting 'Splendid China' and Folk Culture Village and I also am trying to find out the metro station next to it. If someone knows it please let me know.
Regards,
Vikram
