What Is It With Wellies..?

Just wondered whats behind the latest trend in wellie wearing here? Is it because of all the mud..?Hmmm, I think not!

I have seen a ridiculous amount of young women clumping around in wellies, in Central!

I only ever wear mine in UK when I'm mucking out horses or walking dogs on muddy ground.

I cannot understand this craze - in 30c...

the hayley half of danielandhayley actually lays claim to starting this 'trend'...so you can blame her

in her defence, she does only wear them when its raining and carries her 'normal shoes' ie for for work in her bag to change into...quite why they need to be purple and sporting flowers for this purpose i dont know!

That I can understand. However, there are lots of girls wearing wellies in the scorching heat as part of their daily outfit. When I travelled home there were at least half dozen girls wearing them on the plane...?!

lol, well yes, the dress 'sense of a lot of people in Hong Kong leaves a lot to be desired! I think that they dress as the fashion seasons rather than what the weather is actuall like!

I noticed that a lot of shops have now finished their summer sales and are stocking autumn winter clothing...ummm look outside?!

I guess this is because international brands/chains want to keep there seasons consistent with there European / US markets?

I think most clothing stores run a season or half-season ahead. It's hard finding a lot of summer clothing in the US in mid-August.

Thats my point...I cant speak for the US, but in the UK around Septemeber you need to start thinking about dressing for the autumn...whereas here you can wear summer clothing up to at least november! There are scarfs and gloves for sale in Zara...Hong Kong Observatory

hmmm..

I saw the "Gumboot Phenomena" for the first time in NYC in October 05. It fascinated me - seeing women dressed in business suits and their gumboots. Although, to be fair, it was during the wettest week ever in NYC.

Now, why do HK girls wear them - fashion of course. It has nothing to do with the practicality of it. In HK, womens fashion and practicality are mutually exclusive.

I am sure you have seen women in short skirts in the winter, fur lined jackets in the summer and all sorts of other clothing adventures that make you go "hmmmm...."

True, but its still not as bad as some hip hop fashions. I remember a couple years ago during Caribana (the Caribbean Carnival in Toronto), dudes from the US were wearing friggen lamp shades on their heads!
