POKER ONLINE - Possible in HK

Dear all,

I am wondering if it is possible to connect to some online pocker room (pockerstar, partypoker...) and play from home in HK?

I think it is prohihibited but i would like to know if it is technically possible?

Thanks

Yes, to pokerstars, although technically not legal, there are ways around it.

Philts,
Thanks for your reply. I try to connect to Pokerstars but it is impossible to connect to their servers, it says after a while "can't connect to our servers".
Any idea what I should do?
Thanks

Use a proxy server so that your IP address appears to be in a country where online gambling is allowed.

PDLM, and all,

I am afraid to be limited in my knowledge but you guys seem to know how to do it, so... i need again your help...
Can you tell me how to set up a proxy server? And how to select the right country (for which it is allowed?)

Thanks for your precious help...

Public Proxy Servers for a list of proxy servers and their countries. See the help for whatever browser you are using for how to configure it to use a proxy server.

I guess a US-based proxy would do if that is where the gambling sites are based.

I would expect they will also refuse a credit card issued by a Hong Kong bank, so you will need to use some other sort of payment mechanism.

Sorry to go slightly off topic here - but with regard to Proxy Servers...does anybody know if this would work in regard to the video / tv programme content on the BBC website?

BBC Iplayer looks great, but currently only available within the UK.

Thanks!

I believe it does - I remember trying that once to get some content, although not specifically with the i-Player.

Sounds like it maybe worth a try...hopefully I won't bugger up my current internet settings in the process, really don't want the tortue of the NOW TV / PCCW helplines!

Thanks for the advice!

Daniel, no problem.

PDLM, I understand the use of a proxy, however for Pokerstars for instance, I installed their own software, so it does not seem to be a web-based/java thing. How would a proxy server help in that case if I put the set up on my firefox setup only??? Shall I also enter info in the pokerstars files?

Also is a proxy free or how much does it cost?

Thanks all for your help,
