I read the same thing. It appears to be either a gf or wife of the deceased and their accompanying tour guide. It took place at the Drum Tower.

Thousands of people are killed by strangers every day. What's so special about this one?

Bloody Hell PDLM you're cold. No one said it was special. It was merely pointed out.

Hmm, let's see. The killed is an American. In Beijing. During the Olympics. Not special enough? This is going to flashed all over Western TV networks all day (tonight), and all week. American athletes are now going to be guarded by an even bigger amount of security and will make for even more of a hastle. All athletes, coaches, fans, and citizens will be affected by this. All tourists will be watched and surveilled to an uncomfortable extent giving them a great impression of Beijing. Tourist attractions will now seem like going through airport security. Despite how well the games have gone so far, China will be extremely embarassed. This will hang over the games more than the cloud of smog will. Nothing special I guess.

Oh come on One crazed guy kills someone then kills himself in a city with a population of millions, Just so happens its during the olympics. The current war between Georgia and Russia with thousands dead is a much bigger and more important story to be honest.

Still, its a terrible terrible shame for Beijing and of course for the family of the victims, especially after such a jaw-dropping fantastic opening ceremony...

| Wonder what the guy's motive was. Like PDLM and Jimbo have said, people die all the time. The 1,500 who died in Georgia is a much bigger story. At least two Americans got killed in NYC alone last night: * The body of a man in his 20s was found last night on the side of the West Side Highway at 79th Street. A witness told The Post that a grey Toyota going south had slowed down at about 11:40 p.m. and someone threw the victim out. Cops said he was hit by a car. The victim - who was wearing only khaki shorts and sneakers - had slash marks on his head, face and back. * Police are hunting a thug who shot and killed a man in High Bridge early yesterday. Cops responding to a 911 call reporting gunfire on 165th Street near River Avenue shortly after midnight found the victim slumped in the front seat of a parked car. The unidentified man had been shot once in the back of the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Looks like you're better off in Beijing than in the US.
