shatin olympics this morning?

Did anyone else go to Sha Tin for the eventing dressage this morning?

I was there helping out in one of the hospitality boxes and wanted to know how other people got on.

In short:-

A HUGE army of volunteers and security in various forms(all smiling and helpful); very efficient bus service from University;lots of happy specators and friendly, relaxed team officials, competitors and families who, although very focussed on the job ahead, were enjoying the spirit of the games;comfortable looking horses;good coverage on the big screens; pleasant interjections of entertainment; amazing numbers of press (especially as we arrived in the dark - lots of flashing bulbs!)and reasonably priced food - generally, a positive experience for all.
Well done HK!

I could hear lots of praise for the venue and facilities for the horses from team officials, which was good as it was getting quite warm by the end of the morning.

How did everyone else find it?

Didn't go today but off next week. Just curious......
How did the commentary work? Is there anyhing over the loud speaker? If so is it in English?
I heard you can pick up something via radio if you take one with you and ear piece. Is this true?
Cheers

Yes there will be commentary in both Cantonese and English on FM, provided only at Shatin by RTHK.

And they are getting paid by the IOC, which makes a great relief from all this pro bono nonsense.

I have emailed a song request for tomorrow morning's event-
'Crazy Horses' a live rendition by the Osmonds.
That should make up for getting up in the middle of the night.

As long as you follow "House Rules" you are fine, apparently. Equestrian spectator removed after attempting to display Tibetan flag | FoxSports - Fox Sports

"She was sort of disturbing other spectators around her, which is against the house rules," equestrian event spokesman Mark Pinkstone said.
I have a feeling she wasn't disturbing other spectators, it was the security guards pouncing on her that distrurbed other people.

getting there/radio

Miss P,
if you take the train to University there is an excellent bus service - at 4.30 this morning when there were already lots of people, there were no queues and a continuous flow of buses.

There is no parking particularly close, you would probably need to park at Shatin in a 24hr car park then train or shuttle bus in. I think there is info about buses/trains on the HK olympic website

train was very easy!

Yes, as mentioned you need to take a radio if you want full commentary - there is a big screen for tv style coverage but its only pictures.

Have fun!

Is it really necessary to go that early? I have a ticket for Beas River at 8am, and it says I should be there two hours in advance (for security check?). That would mean leaving home at 5am or so...

If there is only commentary on FM at Shatin, how do spectators at Beas River find out what is going on? Any idea?

no, no need to go that early (I had to be there by 5) seats are numbered and you have a ticket so not a problem

In Beas River there are no seats (at least not for the category of ticket I hold), I was told we can just walk around on the grass.
Just wondering about the commentary, as Kombuchakid mentioned only Shatin has.
