visitor visa to dependent visa hi, i have landed a job in hk and have applied for my employment visa through my employer. 1. since, they are not sponsoring visa for my wife, i wanted to find out if this can work out: she comes with me and enter hk on 14 day visa-free stay, and then - either apply for visitor visa extension (1-1.5 month) and then applying for dependent visa - or apply for dependent visa and then seek extension on visitor visa with the reason that dependent visa has been applied. (this if dependent visa can be applied when i am still staying a temp accomodation and may/may not have received my hkid) 2. while entering hk on 14 day visa-free stay, can my wife mention that i already have employment visa and am entering hk along with her. 3. could this information prevent her from getting visa-free stay or visitor visa extension 4. can the 14 day visa-free entry be denied for any reason ? what documents need to be shown in that case. apologise for the long list of queries. thanks

Strictly, you're not supposed to move here until your Employment Visa has been granted. Many people submit the application for spouse's Dependant Visa at the same time as the application for the Employment Visa and ImmD consider them together, but if your application is already in then maybe it's too late for that. The simplest way would be to wait for your Employment Visa to be granted then for you wife to enter on a Visitor Visa and then to apply for a Dependant Visa and at the same time for an extension to the Visitor Visa. This may be a bit easier if you have been married for some time and have plenty of evidence of that. Any visa application can always be denied by ImmD - they have absolute discretion to do whatever they feel fit and the onus is on you to provide whatever documentation and evidence they might ask for.

thanks prettynvain! nationality : indian this is what got to know : i wait for my employment visa in india. 1 on receiving my employment visa i can apply for dependant visa for my wife, from india. 2 since we need to travel to hk before my wife's dependant visa comes, ask for 14 day visitor visa on arrival in hk (explaining the case to the immigration officer). 3 if my wifes dependant visa doesnt get processed within 7-10 days while in hk, then request for extension of visitor visa. any suggestions where this can get stuck! thanks is advance

Once you have your Employment Visa you should be fine doing all that. Note that if you apply for your wife's visa from outside HK then when it arrives, if she is in HK, she will need to exit and re-enter to activate it (a day-trip to Macao would suffice). while my dependant visa was approved 3days before its 4th week upon application in the immigration department (hubby has 2companies here) and if she have pending application, you can request for extension of stay, just show the proof that you have pending dependant application (they will give paper to your wife).. and better you apply her dependant visa, once you've got your hkid..
