| Consulting in HK for UK company? Does this need a W. Permit? Hi there, I work for a UK company and they need me to go to HK to work on a customer site. It looks like a long term thing and may involve me relocating to HK. Will this mean I have to have a work permit or can I still work as a consultant for the UK company without getting a permit? Would I need to be sponsored but the customer? Any help appreciated. Thx |

| If you need a work permit then you need to be sponsored by your employer (but they do not need to have a legal presence in HK). Whether you need a work permit or not is a slightly grey area. Clearly if you relocate (i.e. your normal residence become HK) then you would need one. If you hold a British passport then you can stay up to 6 months at a time as a tourist or temporary business visitor. The best course would be simply to mail your question the the Immigration Department: enquiry@immd.gov.hk They are quick and helpful. |
