This just seems TOO good to be true. But having said that it does not surprise me too much that this is a real essay. A very sad and worrying indication of the state of kids minds in Hong Kong.

good laugh

my colleagues & I were discussing how to pronounce "sword" the correct way and since we were talking about the english standard in HK, I showed them the essay above. We couldn't stop cracking after reading every 3 or 4 words! The part about the fish and its eye was really funny. damn it's back to work now...

If you don't mind risking a hernia ask a chinese.any chinese of your aquaintance to say mosquito, I would say 80% will come up with "quit" as the second syllable. Did they all have the same teacher I wonder?

Incidentally, why are there exclamations in Japanese in the essay? Is the author Japanese, or is Japanese commonly spoken to such an extent in HK?

Isnt it a mixture of chinese and japanese? I'd suspect the japanese phrases are there because of the shop being Sogo and some phrases being popular with the kids due to the Anime / Manga influences???

just my feeling

I feel lucky because I am not this student to be laughed at (hope you are not the teacher)

Anyway, I should say not many HKers have good English that can make native people satisfied. <---- mistakes ?
