If its your first job in HK then its not too bad but of course could be a lot better and it does depend on what your core hours are as well.

Does "no overtime" mean that you only have to work 9-6, or that you have to work 24*7 and you aren't going to get paid any extra?

is my first job in hk but i have 4 years exp in the US. When u asked core hours, u mean working hours?? this job is from 9-6 and they normally get off work on time 6pm (15min+/-). If they want you to work extra hours they will pay for overtime.

When u said it can be a lot better? can u give me some examples Jimbo? Thanks

I'm currently trying to hire someone on a similar salary doing support. The candidates we have seen are all pretty experienced (> 8 years) and I can't understand why they aren't earning more, frankly!

Yup your hrs are not too bad pretty much same as mine but I get paid more, I won't say how much more on a public forum but its noticeable.
You're being paid on local terms hence why its lower, The 13th month bonus usually means an extra 2kish a month in gross terms, o.k but but not spectacular. I assume the offer is non negotiable?

A few years back I was on final shortlists for helpdesk role which paid 30k plus this was for first line with a bit of desktop. So really what you're being offered is nearer the bottom of the payscale. You're still getting something better than locals though who are usually on below 20k for the same role.

Octarine

Are you hiring locals for these roles? If so then they will usually ask for less as they want a foot in the door more than anything else.

DSYY,

Is this just general luser support on how to switch on their PC, use Windows etc? Or is there some specialist knowledge of legal software involved? If just general basic luser support then I'd say it's a pretty good salary. There are competent IT people out there getting significantly less.

Yeah, we need someone who speaks Cantonese, but with good enough English to understand me. (A difficult feat!)

Yup Locals do and will command less as they usually still live at home thus their expenses are less than most of the rest of us.

As long as they earn enough for a nintendo ds and a decent spec pc to play warcraft etc on then they're usually happy

For our role, I'm not particularly bothered if the candidates are from overseas or not. I have noticed that locals seem a little... uneasy at my interview style, particularly when I ask them about hobbies and interests.
I don't want to hire someone boring, after all.
