"Eyre Affair" is a great book (one of my favorites, in fact). But it's much, much better if you're familiar with "Jane Eyre." (And a lot of other English lit, but that's really the big one.)

So, if you haven't read "Jane Eyre," read that first. Or at least get the Cliff's Notes. Its plot is a central part of Fforde's book.

His nursery rhyme crimes are good, too.

Speaking of books turning into movies.... before the movie comes out in December this year, everyone has to read "The Time-Travellers Wife".

Time Traveller's Wife ? Really ? I've picked it up a few times but always put it back on the shelf as it sounded like the Notebook but with a sci-fi edge to it that the author doesn't completly have a hold on.

Do you think so?... I thought she did a real clever job at that. She could have made a complete mess of it but she intertwined the forming relationship and "time-zones" in well. And yes, I guess it is kind of like the Notebook but I never read that book and hated the movie which is probably why I don't see a resemblance between these two novels.

Well I haven't read it but that was my impression of the book. Maybe its a case of "don't judge a book by its cover"

Will check it out when I'm in Dymocks next.

Book club

Hello,
I'm wondering if you all had any luck organising a book club? If so I'm interested in joining one. Let me know! Thanks!

Hello again, I was just reading all of your threads and it seems that your book club is being led by "Chef_John" is that correct? If so are you all still meeting and are you all in the process of reading a book right now? Cheers!

Yep, Jasper Fforde wrote a cracker of a weird book there- it really blew my mind when I read it. The sequels have been a bit too mundane though.

Hi - I have just arrived and it devestated me to only bring six of my books out - I had to leave behind my copy of Wicked - by the way I much preferred Mirror Mirror to Lost in fact Mirror Mirror is almost on par with Wicked in my estimation.

Count me in for a book club, luckily I have found a lovely little second hand book shop in Sai Kung which will hopefully keep me going - I have just finished Christopher Brookmyre's The tale of the unsinkable rubber ducks and it was amazing, but am sure you are not lookin for recommendations, I will keep looking on here to see if a club is actually being conceived!
