Good bars & nightclubs to see on a 2 day-visit?

Ey guys,

We're a bunch of people arriving in HK for 2-3 days from Dubai & Bombay, and gonna be put up at the InterCon. Now, I've no idea where that is, or for that matter, no idea about HK in general. So could anyone guide me as to where to go for a few drinks at nights, close to our hotel? And what're the other places I shouldn't miss seeing once I'm there.

Oww and how much does commuting cost in your city? If I cab it down to those places..? Would somebody be nice enough to give me an idea?

Cheers.

If Intercontinental in Tsim Sha Tsui you are close to Aqua - good bar for views of harbour,go around 8pm for the light show, but a bit expensive. Its in 1 Peking,Peking Road.Getting around in HK very cheap and very reliable if here for just few days get an Octopus card which lets you travel around on MTR,Ferries & buses.

lots of bars in TST East, Sticky Finger, Bulldogs etc. you could also take a taxi to Wan Chai across the harbour, it will not cost more than HK$ 100 each way including the tunnel fee. Loads of bars there. Will only take 1/2 hour or faster depending on the traffic.

hmm bout a $100 one-way to Wanchai's kind of steep but cool...heard a bit about that area now, so might surely end up goin there.

And yeah, checked, we're put up in the InterCon in Tsimshatsui, Salisbury Road.

How's the hotel anyway? And is the Peninsula (Felix bar) nearby? Worth a visit?

HK $100 is about $12 USD. If there is 5 in a taxi that's not steep at all.

Lan Kwai Fong is probably better, especially if you have females in your group.

^ Thanks. Any word on the Felix, or the Gecko bar? Heard a bit about those two places, might go there. ...or if there's another better place someone would like suggesting, please do...preferably some place close to Tsimshatsui InterCon.

Oww and I'm guessing cabs in HK run on meters, yeah? Or do you negotiate the fares?

Cabs run on meters, they have to by law but you can negotiate if you have to travel a long way. But the negotiating would be in your favour as meter would cost more.

Felix i cant help you with. Gecko bar is ok, it's a bit small but tunes are good as are the tunes in the buddha lounge. Most of these places are small as space is at a premium especially on HK Island.

It all depends what you are after at the end of the day, good music, women/guys or just drinking.

TST isn't very lively, wanchai is lively but possibly not for the reasons your group are looking for and Lan Kwai Fong tends to be a little more expensive but that's where the expats and locals tend to drink.

Felix doesnt play music for a start. Its very small and intimate, drink prices are about on par with Dragon-i, so if frugal affordable drinks is on the agenda, and you are paying for drinks yourself, not on the company expense account, I'd give that one a miss...

In my opinion, Felix is a much more impressive restaurant, than it is a bar, which is more an after Felix dinner drink spot. Worth a look if you have an interest in commercial interior design, its quiet out there .

Btw, prices charged for food and beverages are in the upper threshold of the spectrum, you might want to consider that if you are worried about the prices of taxi fares .

yh well really, when you travel with a group of about 15-20, gotta keep in mind the considerations of one and all...N thus fares/prices for drinks all do matter.

Thanks a lot for your replies though Trebor and Skyhook, indeed very helpful. We'll probably be hitting LKF the first night, check out some of the bars there and then take it from there.

By the way, what's the best way for us to get to Macau? I hear there's a ferry terminal, but would anybody enlighten me a bit more on that, please?
