My friend has a simple philosophy - pay yourself first. If he has nothing left to pay himself from his cheque he feels he is not making money. It has worked well for him and I have known him since he was 19 when I started to coach him. He is doing well with that view 20 years later!!!

It can't work for all of us, but his idea of pay yourself first is a good one.
