What is it like to live in Clearwater Bay? Hi, What is it like to live in Clearwater Bay? We heard it's rural living, but how rural is it? For example, is it important to have a car? Are there residential streets where sidewalk cafe/bakeries are abundant? Are there restaurants opening late into the night? For daily groceries, do people go to a super market or plenty of options on the residential streets? Any information is greatly appreciated!

I suspect it's just someone who has never been anywhere near Hong Kong and has a completely false perception of the place. But as to where to start in answering her I really haven't a clue.

My neighbours here used to live in Clearwater bay. I was chatting to them yesterday and they happened to mention that the country club is great and that there is a lovely waterfall there. That's the extent of my knowledge! But the one time I visisted that area I do not recall seeing anything (like, no shops, no cafes etc) so you might be out of luck. I don't think you absolutely need a car anywhere in Hong Kong because taxis are so cheap, but Clearwater might be one of those places where the need is greater than most!

I live in Clear Water Bay, to give you some basic info, Rents here can go for Min HK$6,000 to upwards of HK$150,000 per month depending on size and facilities in the compound. For groceries you can either go to the one and only Supermarket which is PARKnSHOP.com which is geared towards expats living in this area or u can go to Hanghau in Tseung Kwan O which is the nearest town, its only 5 mins away from Park N Shop and there you will find lots of local supermakets, wet markets, restaurants etc. There are no shops/restaurants in clear water bay. During the day the public transport is quite good, rush hour can be a pain because of limited seat in the minibus so you might have to line up a bit early. It takes me 5-10 mins to get to the MTR (Train Station). After midnight you have to take a taxi. Having a car is useful but not really required. I used to own one but gave it up and doing fine without it, most of my shopping i get it delivered. Whenever i go out on the piss, i call a discount taxi and it only costs me HK $110 from Wan Chai. if you need anymore info PM me.
