If you're a home body, you'll probably prefer South Horizon or Sham Wan. It's quiet and has good facilities. They also have nice club house with gym/pool etc... Most single people I know prefer to live in Wanchai/CWB/Mid Level and Happy Valley where there is more action, closer to restaurants and a more active social life.
I am not 100% home body. but imagine how many days you are going to night club / restaurants perweek? So, no shopping, market is fine i guess.

You should take a look at the Beacon Hill area in Kowloon. It's fairly close to the Kowloon Tong MTR station by small bus. There are a couple of 3br/2bath flats at around 1000 square feet for approximately $28000 a month. It's a lot like living back in the Toronto suburbs -- quiet, and the air is quite fresh there too.

Wow, Beacon hill is miles away, you have to go through 2 tunnels just to get to where the OP will be working, I used to work in Wong Chuk Hang like 10 years ago, even then the morning traffic was horrible, it would take me over an hour just to get there, most time my face would be stuck to the door as the bus was so full.

BrendaHK, stick to South Horizons, less hassle to get to work, if you do go out to Wan Chai or Central, it will only take you like 1/2 and comming back if you take a taxi after a late night out, it shouldnt be more than 100 HK$

Yeah someone forgot to read a little bit...I don't know too many teachers that can afford to pay that kind of money for rent not to mention the crazy commute...

That's incorrect. It takes less than 15 minutes by MTR to get where she needs to go. It's only a couple of minutes away from the MTR station by small bus. I always go to central, and the morning commute is a breeze. It is one of the best areas to live in HK, but I have to admit, there are very few available for rent, as most of them available are 35k plus (it's a very prestigious and livable area, after all). There are already quite a few expats living in the Kowloon peak area already. Now, I believe there's only one fllat in Beacon Hilll available for rent under 30k -- not too sure if it's taken already though.

There is no MTR where she needs to go! It's south side of the island.

I was thinking of exiting the nearest station and taking a taxi or putting a car in a long term parking lot.

Dude...do you know how much a teacher make as a monthly salary? Not enough to have a flat that costs 28K...buy a car, get a monthly parking thing and take cabs everywhere. What planet do you live on?

Doesn't really sound like you were thinking at all frankly...
