Great segment on The Daily Show about the New Yorker cover.

I loved the Wolf Blitzer part. While I know the New Yorker were trying to be humorous with that cover, a lot of America just simply cannot understand that. It may have actually hurt Obama's image because of the stupidity of the masses.

Wolf Blitzer just elevated himself to the status of being a complete moron, in my opinion.

He's also probably got a few people wondering if he reads Neo-Nazi publications in his spare time!

BTW, in case someone thinks I was taking a shot at the US, I wasn't. The vast majority of people in any country are pretty ignorant. Sad but true.

Jay, in my opinion it's not that "America just simply cannot understand that", it's that it wasn't incredibly humorous nor did it capture the effectiveness of true satire. Had the cartoonist wished to be satirical or humorous, the image should've had the neo-con loving Fox News logo in the corner, complete with a breaking news ticker scrolling (frozen) at the bottom; as if the audience was watching an image from television.

In this context it might have been hilarious because it is no secret the ultra conservative American media outlets portray Mr Obama in this manner. No, this was not the stupidity of the masses reacting out of ignorance. The cover was simply neither amusing nor humorous in the form in which it was presented.

Moreover, it creeps ever so blindly into blatantly kicking yet more sand in the eyes of true Muslims. As if their religion (and traditional clothing) is worthy of such fear and scurge. Again, outside of the layout mentioned above, it fails horribly to strike the "ha-ha" factor in which the artist and editor claim to have been reaching.

Having said all this, I haven't watched the clip but will later. As a good American would, I dig John Stewart

While I don't entirely agree with your response, it was well-written and I can see your point. A lot of America DO fear Muslim garb, and this isn't going to change things and increase the overall panic level. I lived in Nassau County, NY on 9/11 and Sikhs were being shot at because they looked like Muslims. It was both sad and mildly amusing to see Sikhs riding around with up to four flags on their cars and SUVs and stickers all over their vehicles proclaiming they were, "Sikh and proud to be American."

The New Yorker tends to attract some of the most intelligent and knowledgeable of readers. I would hope the majority of them would realize it was merely in jest. I don't think the Fox News logo or ticker would have substantially helped things. I think they were going for the Norman Rockwell kind of feel The New Yorker is so famous for.

The clip was pretty good. I find Jon Stewart's humor pretty crude and tasteless, but I have to admit it had me chuckling. I wish we got Comedy Central out here.
