Thanks for all the input. I have decided to buy one in the US from a big store with a good warranty. HP or Sony with the new Intel Hafnium chip - hope it is as fast etc as advertised...

Some of them aren't too bad, I had my Benq laptop fixed a couple of times once in HK and once in UK and can't fault the warranty company at all.

I guess you are lucky. What was wrong with your computer?

It may just be us. They once held on to our toshiba for 3 months to replace the dvd drive. They claimed that the drive has to come from Japan when the computer is made in china. they told us to pick up the computer about 2 weeks after the warranty has expired and said they'll ship us the drive when it arrives. They did ship us the drive some time later but they have to charge us an inspection fee and labour to put the drive back in.

The other incident was a brand new windows pre-installed notebook that crashed from day 1. Chevalier reinstalled windows and said there is nothing wrong with the hardware. I managed to load Firefox but can't write an email without crashing. We took the claim to American Express (bought it with American Express) and Chevalier again reinstalled windows and it still crashes. This notebook is being used as a foot rest right now.

Mine was a HD failure it happened twice.

For the laptop which failed from day one, Who did you buy it from? Direct from chevalier or one of toshiba's dealers?

You should of taken it direct to where you purchased it from and rejected it there and then as it wasn't fit for purpose and they should of replaced it rather than try to fix it.

We got it from Fortress at Ocean Terminal. Thats a whole new story.
