Question Sai Kung or Tai Po?

Please can you help me to decide where to live? I will be working in Homantin, Kowloon. I have a family and would rather have a house than a flat.

Pros and Cons please anyone?

Depends on your lifestyle. I live in Tai Po about a 5 minutes drive outside Tai Po Centre in a village house on the seaside. Everyday I see egrets and other birds flying by my garden and can ride my bike all around Tai Po and even up to Tai Mei Tuk and down to Shatin and Ma On Shan. We have an aquatic centre, outdoor pool and Tai Po Waterfront Park here. Jusco and Park N' Shop Superstore along with all the typical mall shopping and fast food outlets are in Tai Po Centre but we also have a lot of wet markets and local vendors so prices are lower than elsewhere in HK. Rent is much lower in Tai Po than in Sai Kung. However we have a limited foreign community found mostly in Tai Mei Tuk, which does have good restaurants. Takes me 20 minutes to drive to TST and about 30-40 to get into Central by car.

Sai Kung is good if you need to be around Westerners and it does have more western restaurants. We tried to live there but the traffic is horrendous and it was a lot more crowded than Tai Po. Prices also higher for daily goods as is the rent.

I've lived in HK Island, Kowloon, Ma On Shan, Tung Chung, and now Tai Po and Tai Po is by far my favorite place for quality of life, fresh air and friendly local people. You need a car in either TP or SK.
