dependent visa for my husband??

I am a HK perm. resident, my husband (an italian) and I get married in HK three years ago, soon after that i immigrated to Italy with him. Now my husband would like to find a job in HK and reside there with me next year.

in this case, he will need to apply a dependent visa so as to stay in HK for long, am I right???

if yes, can anybody let me know the procedure and the time needed for applying a dependent visa? can i apply in advance from overseas to save time?

Since I left HK for 3 years and I dont have a job there, will I be qualified to apply a dependent visa for my husband. Do I need to have a fixed job and fixed salary in order to be qualified?

Thanks a lot

the best thing to do would be to contact immigration directly.
yes, you can do the application from overseas.
yes, he is eligible for a dependent visa.

i don't know what is required, nor do i know how long it takes. but, as i said, i'm sure immig can help you.

Principles: The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Immigration Department
Form: http://www.immd.gov.hk/pdforms/id(e)936.pdf
Guidance notes: http://www.immd.gov.hk/pdforms/id(e)937.pdf

Be aware that if you are a HK Permanent Resident who is not a Chinese citizen and you have been away from HK continuously for 36 months or more then your Right of Abode will be downgraded to Right to Land, but this doesn't affect your right to sponsor your husband as your Dependant.

You need to be able to show that you have the means to support yourself and your husband in Hong Kong. If you have significant savings then that should be sufficient.

For specific enquiries: enquiry@immd.gov.hk

Hi!

I am a HK permanent resident currently residing in Canada. My husband is a french-canadian and we are moving back to HK in September. I applied for a dependent visa for him at the end of April and was approved mid-May. I mailed all the applications and supporting documents to HK from here, and all went pretty smoothly. We do have to show that we have a place to live in HK, and since I don't have a job and my husband will start his own business once he landed, we provided Immigration our investment portfolio and savings to show that we can support ourselves financially. When we had questions we just emailed Immigration in HK and they responded promptly. All in all, it was straight forward. I am having more trouble planning my cat's flight to HK than getting a dependent visa for my husband!

Good luck!

-M.

Thanks for all, it really helps.

PDLM, you applied the visa from overseas, didnt you need to personally present at the department when the visa was ready?

I have much concern about the financial situation, i have no idea how much of savings I should have to meet their requirement.

Would they consider even the savings and properties we have in Italy?
I may need to ask the consulate general of Italy in Hong Kong for official translation from Italian to English to all documents.

I have a cat too. I understand it's not easy to let her travel such a long journey all alone in cage.

When my husband's visa was ready, I asked my parent to pick it up for me in HK with a letter of authorization from me.

I also have a cat and just got her permit from HK to bring her in. There are some paper work for sure, but all in all, so far it seems do-able. Of course if you are worried you can always employ a pet-import company to sort it out for you.

If you want you can also PM me for more info.

Thanks for the information!

LeChatNoir, does the dependant visa for your husband has a time limit? does he need to present the visa at the custom when he enters HK?

Your information do ease my mind. Thanks a lot.

My friend's friend sent his cat from Australia to HK few years ago. As he said, the airline did give his cat a medicine to clam down/sleep on the plane, i'm not really sure. But it should be a safe one I believe. Have you ever talk with the airline company on the issue?

I wish your cat would be happy of its new life in HK.

If I recall correctly the visa has to be stuck in your passport and presented at HK Immigration with 90 days of issue.
