Know Your Rights Meeting

Please notify your domestic helpers about an important meeting next Sunday, July 27, 2 to 5 PM, in the Multi-Purpose Hall back of Park n Shop, Discovery Bay. All domestic helpers, all nationalities, should be there. Spread the word so the helpers can learn about their legal rights.

See here: Know Your Rights Seminar, 27 July A Death in Hong Kong

But frankly domestic helpers working for people who would accede to your request are probably not the ones who most badly need to be there. It's the ones whose employers specifically don't want them to know their rights that this needs to get to. Good luck with it nevertheless.

I wonder wheter the seminar would include... "Now I know my rights, what should I do (or what's my recourse) if those rights were violated" ???

Absolutely - that's what Holly Allen and her team at Helpers for Domestic Helpers assist with all the time - it's a very practically oriented organisation, not some conscience-salving talking shop. It is supported by a number of lawyers who give their time pro bono (primarily from Allen & Overy I believe).

Thanks for the reminder. If you have any helpers who should attend, please give them the address and time. The meeting is still on.
