Hi,

Any recommendations for which phone service to use for the home line -- needed features are:

(1) IDD (USA, Britain, China, Taiwan in particular)
(2) local calls
(3) fax - local and international
(4) broadband internet access for computer only - no TV needed

I've tried going to the stores and getting these features, but they give me a contract in tiny print and then try to tack on features I don't need or want and that they can't even explain.

If you have a suggestion of the company and of the store in particular I should visit (Kowloon to Shatin area) that has helpful service, that would be very helpful.

would you consider pccw? its pricey but it is quite stable (no to pccw mobile however...)

PCCW for homeline, IDD & broadband no complaint for those, but mobile service really sucks, bills just sent when they want to.. not every month even filed complaint couple times still useless..

you can call them up, look for the hotline from the web, so can ask for eng. speaker staff.

I'd say get the fixed line and broadband from PCCW. The fixed line is HK$110 per month. The installation fee is waived if you commit to (I think) 12 months. Simple 6/8MB broadband should be about $188-200/month. Again a 12 month commitment gets the installation fee waived. Ignore all the extras like "free" gifts for longer commitments, wireless routers for the broadband and so on.

Buy your IDD separately. Easy to do from many sources. The best deals depend on where you are calling and how much.

You can get the broadband alone, no need to pay the fixed line if you don't want the phone. Moreover I recently got a phone line for around 40 per month with a 2 years contract. I asked several times if there is no promotion for a phone line and finally they came up with this offer.
