| | | How fast is internet browsing on 3G Iphone if u have one from 3 right now, how fast is it? was Steve actually telling us the truth when he said "3 IPhone will let you experience mobile internet browsing as it should be" (which is similar to home net browsing?) | |

| | | I can't comment on the JesusPhone as such, but it looks like the theoretical maximum download speed available on 3's network is 7.2Mbps, which is comparable to a home connection. My cynical side says you will only ever get that speed standing within 10m of a cell, and downloading data from within 3's network...
Of course, the same speed is available on many other 3G phones as well.

| So , 3.2 = "super slow, not worth it to use it "? | |

| | | after some digging around, it seems like 7.2mbps and 3.2mbps don't have much noticeable differences in speed. The thing we need to look at is the CPU itself, which the new iphone didn't do much. According to google searches, the new Iphone still runs at 400mhz which is the same as the old generation. So even thou it is capable of doing 3G , Iphone doesn't have the hardwares to take full(or any) advantage of it. Hopefully after a few months, apple will release a new version with upgraded processor | |

Not super fast like on a PC at home, but perfectly acceptable, so I wouldn't say the hardware should be a massively limiting factor here. The one thing that would be *really* nice is if they did background downloading, so I could be reading one page while another loads. Only realised how much I like this feature of tabbed browsing now that the iPhone doesn't do it...

It's the baseband processor that handles the 3G connection, the application processor (CPU) only needs to render the pages . And believe me, it certainly has enough horsepower to do it, seen any of the 3D games the iphone can run?
And no, apple will certainly not be releasing a version with an 'upgraded processor' any time soon. Man the internet seems to be a breeding ground for morons sometimes.
As for speed, I have a 3G iphone now. It is indeed mobile internet as it should be. Web sites load extremely fast (especially if you're used to EDGE). When I got to finance.yahoo.com it takes about 5 seconds to load the page completely.
All in all I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the Iphone 3G. It's leagues ahead of anything else currently available (if you ever get a chance to try the HTC Diamond you'll notice it is horrible!). The 3D games are really impressive, GPS works great, mobile maps, ebooks, music, videos, all in your pocket. It's a fantastic device.
3 currently has the cheapest 3G plans in Hong Kong too. At $188 for voice and 500 MB of real internet access it's a bargain (similar packages on PCCW and Smartone cost between $500 and $600 per month!!). Hong Kong has the cheapest iphone plans in the world, enjoy it while you're here!

| | | $188 of course. I've had my phone for 10 days now. Data usage is 55 MB, so I wont be using more than 150 MB per month. Factor in that in the beginning you'll be using youtube etc. more, I don't see how 500 MB can't be enough.
Many people say you 'need' unlimited, but I wonder if that's based on any experience or if they're just your usual opionated ignoramuses.
