Wife on Dependent Visa but just found a job - HELP with paperwork!

Hi all,

Hope all is well. I've some questions which I hope fellow forum members can help me out.

I have been in HK for the past two years on an employment visa. My long-suffering wife finally made to move to HK last October on a dependent visa sponsored by myself. She initially thought this would be a good break away from work, just relaxing end enjoying the sights of HK.

However, just last month, she sent out some CVs in response to the Classifieds due to boredom. And was lucky enough to be offered a job by a local company!

Employment visa application is well on the way. At first, she thought that she just needed to fill in ID936, but was told by the immigration department that's not required and she needs to only submit forms ID91 and ID428B. She has also passed her original passport to her future employer as informed by them for further verification by the immigration department. Her dependent visa only expires in October this year, which mirrors my employment visa.

My question: Is it absolutely necessary for my wife to hand over her original passport to the immigration department?

Appreciate if anyone of you could help me out here. Many thanks.

Cheers,
Dubbie

hello

This is required and is part of the process when someone is changing from a dependant visa to an employment visa in Hong Kong.

Hi Emigra,

Many thanks for your response. If the working visa application is being rejected for whatever reasons, she will still get to keep her dependent visa status right?

Cheers,
Dubbie
