Drum & Bass Scene in HK?

Hey,

I have just been offered a job in HK and will be relocating from the UK in the next 2 months

Though I'm planning to considerably downsize when I move, I can't decide whether it's worth bringing my decks over. I can't bring myself to get rid of all my vinyl! Just a few questions:

1. Is much of a drum & bass scene in HK? I realise it ain't gonna be London, but is there enough to keep the junglists happy??

2. What are the chances of getting a DJ slot somewhere? Not looking for anything too serious or looking to be paid, just somewhere to spin a few tracks.

3. What are the record shops like? Do they stock much dnb or is it better to order internationally?

Cheers all, any suggestions for decent nights out will be noted!

as far as i know, there's 3 main collectives that host dnb events in hk: kongkretebass, msoul and heavy. you can look em up on facebook...

there used to be just 1 gig a month, but recently there's been 2-3 each month...plenty of international dj's invited along as well...most recent being Shimon...last weekend.

as far as getting a dj slot here...just come along to one of the events and have a chat with the djs there...they're an incredibly friendly crowd unlike the generally pretentious djs in hk haha ... oh and i think they order their records internationally...

heya,

jc pretty much summarised it very well. but you have probably got your head around the small scene by now anyway

here's what we do: Kongkretebass.com

while you're there also check out the podcast with several free mixes for download every month!

Boom Drop at Yumla

Apart from Heavy, Kongrete Bass and Magnetic Soul, Yumla also have monthly dnb nights on Friday nights. Unfortunately, you just missed one, which was "Boom Drop with special guest Lost Sequence" but if you are into Dubstep, Heavy have a Japanese and Finiish DJ playing tonight if you are interested...

Aiya! Why are you linking to Facebook (with all the crap that comes with it) rather than to the real websites of the events?

For those who prefer not to let Facebook near their computer, some less invasive links:

Heavy's Dubstep: 10th Oct Sat - Heavy's Dubstep -->Matt B (BassScience) Japan - View topic - Hong Kong's Entertainment, Nightlife, Clubbing and Music Guide - hkclubbing.com (at Ivan the Kozak??? what a bizarre location for this)

The official Clockenflap website is here: Clockenflap
