sai wan ho

Hi there,

I moved to Sai Wan Ho with my husband from the UK in December 2007, its ok if you're a family person (I've got a toddler and a baby), but if you're the sort of person who likes to go out drinking a lot and partying and being part of the busy vibe of the city, its not ideal. To be fair, it only a couple of stops away from Central or 10 minutes in a taxi, so its not too far out. But next to no expats live in this area. We chose it because the rent is significantly cheaper as it is less popular, also the air is cleaner.

I'm a passionate swimmer and fortunately I live in a complex with an outdoor poor which is open all year long. Sai Wan Ho also has a sports centre on Lei King Road with a semi decent pool. I say semi decent because they never put out lanes, its every person for themself and the locals here have appalling pool etiquette, but if that sort of thing doesn't bother you, no problem, its only 19HKD to use.

Which complex are you moving to? If you can, try get a place in The Grand Promenade, its where we live, the Clubhouse is pretty good. Either that or Les Saisons, another good complex.

Best of luck,
Sophie

Living in Sai Wan Ho

I live in Sai Wan Ho at the Grand Promenade and really like it as well. It's nice because you can get so much more for your money than in Central and Hong Kong island is so small it hardly takes anytime to get around. There's nice restaurants on the water and Tai Koo is nearby which has a great mall for shopping.

I'm at Grand Promenade as well. I like it out here in the east. I don't hit Lan Kwai Fong everyday.., so for me it's no problem. I'd rather be closer to take a ride out to Shek O or Big Wave Beach than close to LV and Central's pubs, as I work in Wan Chai - I think coming out to Grand Promenade is a little 'break from the city'.

Yes. The north side of the street can be seen from my apartment.

I'm at GP as well and very much agree with Master's comments. 20 mins to Big Wave Bay and 15 mins to central. Ideal given that I work in Taikoo Place so I can walk to work.....
