Is it possible to live in Shenzhen while working in hong kong?

Hi,

I have been offerred a job in Hong Kong. The company will sponsor the work permit/Visa.

The office location is somewhere near LoWu.
I have some of my friends working in Shenzhen.
So i was wondering whether it is possible to live/reside in Shenzhen and commute to HK everyday.

Is this possible (from legal and immigration perspective)? If so who should I contact to get more information?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Madhu

Perfectly legal, but a bit of a headache. Still, there are people on here who do it. The lines at LoWu can get really long at times.

hongkong7 will become famous soon enough
Madhu,
Madhu,

If you have a HK work visa it will be no problem for you to live in SZ and commute to HK daily from the perspective of the HK immigration.

and the commute is not so bad depending on which border crossing you are using etc

The issue to be very careful of is the Chinese side of the border-are they going to let you back in every day?

Do you have multi entry visa ?F,L or Z -it will not be easy to get them now and furthermore if you have a Z visa and they see your HK work visa (which they will )they may well cancel your multi entry China Z visa

previous to the olympics these things were not so difficult but now i would not make that assumption

Madhu, HongKong7 could be onto something there.

It might be an idea to choose a convenient location in HK, where you can get to work easy enough, and be handy to your friends in Shenzhen.
  • Sha Tin or any location on the LoWu KCR line
  • Tai Po as above
  • Sheung Shui would be the most logical location.
  • Tuen Mun City ( mini bus to Sheung Shui is 20 minutes )
  • So Kwun Wat ( Tuen Mun where the Gold Coast is located )
  • Yuen Long city, quiet close to Sheung Shui, and easy to get to the city by bus etc.

There are probably a few others i have missed, but you get the idea.

Yes, you should be able to find a 2 bedroom apartment close to the Sheung Shui railway station without any problems in that price range.

Best to locate a real estate agent in the area, and see whats on offer. Remember that you can negotiate the rent with the land lords, within reason.

Madhu,
Another issue you should consider is that it is currently impossible to get a multiple China visa. Rumor has it that things will be back to normal in October, but nothing has been confirmed.
Agree with Skyhook, check out the Sheung Shui area. You will surely find something within your price range.

live in sheung shui, u will be able to get 6000 rent. don't bother living in Shenzhen and commuting everyday as you will have 4 immigration chops per day, your passport will get full very fast plus you will have to fill out arrival and departure forms everyday. why bother. just go to shenzhen on weekends to meet up with your friends.
