Finanical planners?

my fiance and i are lookign to meet with a financial planner to discuss money management and planning. Back in the US, this can be done in most banks regardless of how much you make or have saved. Whereas in HK, it seems like it's only done for the extrememly rich. Can anyone recommend a finanical planner or a place to go for a couple that's starting off?

Or Essential Finance Corporate Site if you don't want someone calling you every 14 hours trying to sell you the highest commission based product his company offers.

That's an excellent looking site that I wasn't aware of before - thanks for that Lammarite.

(Although it suddenly now seems to have gone down!)

Has anyone any experience of actually using them to do stuff rather than just consulting the free info on their site?

BEFORE taking any "IFA"'s call .. make sure you look them up on the SFC site.

If they're not on here .. Public Register of Licensed Persons and Registered Institutions they're insurance sales guys doing the hustle.

One of the guys I've just banned / deleted did not have his company's name in there .. just incase some PM's have gone missing.

Also, if you're going back to the US, I urge you to go look up someone is licensed / qualified there.

PDLM - Really found it useful? I gave up as soon as I saw their special offers... high commission products.

Bender: did you ask your US tax accountant to do a free financial planning for your family? I think some US tax guy should be able to do it. if he/she is nice enough, planning shouldnt be that complicated.

again... like the previous posters said, avoid high fee products and insurance salespeople.
