Shipping items to the USA

A older friend of mine is moving to the US to retire. The shipping company (for household items) told her she couldn't ship anything unless she is US citizen/dependent.. or something like that. (That is what I understood from my conversation with her anyway.)

I though I would quickly ask you guys on her behalf if there are any restrictions for shipping via a shipping company to the US that anyone knows of? I never heard of such a thing!

Thanks!

PS. If anyone knows of a good shipping company that does ship to the US for "non-citizens" that would be good.
