Dependant visa for parents Is it possible to bring my parents (indian passport holders) to stay with me permanently on dependant visa? I am currently working in Hong Kong on employment visa. Other than proof of financial support, what else is needed? Any pointers/personal experiences will be highly appreciated.

The Immigration Department has an excellent website, from which you should consult this document: http://www.immd.gov.hk/pdforms/id939a.pdf which lists (on page 8) the criteria for residence as a dependent. But essentially, if you are here on an Employment Visa the only dependents you can bring in are your spouse and your children. You need unconditional stay to be able to bring your parents.

You need to prove that your parents are indeed dependant on you...father retired, over 60 yrs of age, mother too..either that or housewife. If either of them are working then it may not be approved.

Scr, The document I referenced is very clear. If you are in on Hong Kong on an Emplyment Visa then you may NOT bring your parents as dependents.

I am sure you are right. I'm not trying to mislead anyone..only speaking from personal experience. We applied for dependant visa for my husband's parents and got it. This was about 5 years ago and he was on employment visa. Last edited by scr; 17-02-2005 at 02:06 PM.

Oh - OK - fair enough - maybe the rules have changed. Or maybe they aren't as inflexible as they appear to be.
