Visa refused

The Immigration department have refused me a dependant's visa as although I am financially dependant on my partner and he has been relocated to Hong Kong, we are not married. I am currently holding a tourist visa which will expire eventually, of course.

Any ideas on what to do next?
Has anyone ever appealed on this type of decision?

Thanks for your input. Becky.

Ummm hate to say this, but err ... thought of getting married?

Most countries that I know will not even entertain the possibility of granting a dependant's visa to someone who is not a spouse.

If you insist on a dependent's visa, you have a number of options.

1. Get married
2. Break new ground and fight your case with the respective authorities.
3. Give up, wait it out and see if you get deported.

Alternatively, you could just leave HK for a few days and get your tourist visa extended/renewed....

i think your only option would be to get married.

sorry to say but im actually surprised they let you waste their time and yours by submitting the application in the first place.

they would have knowen and should have told you that these type applications are never approved.

Also if you decide to get married can be done esily in Hong Kong tyou will need to prove to immigration that you have been together a long time although you say that you proved to them you are dependant on him but i suggest make sure that you dont give them the impression you only got married to get the dependants visa or they will refuse it again.

A friend of mine is trying to get a dependant visa, too and neither is she married. The folks at the Imigration Dep. told her that she has to proof somehow that there's a relationship like saying that they are engaged and planning to get married. The "status girlfriend" does not count.
