I am just about to accept a 12 month rolling contract in Kowloon Tong for 20,000 HK Dollars a month , is this good for hong kong? im 23 year old teacher? Is it worth doing?i have 2 months rent paid for also in a company room and ither benefits like private helathcare. Where is the best place to meet people etc . Advice needed!! Cheers!!

Well considering your age and experience, I guess it's not horrible but it's definitely on the low end. On the other hand, it gets you here and you'll have a better chance of finding something better later on.

A starting NET teacher would have about the same salary but will have plane tickets, baggage allowance, an extra housing allowance of HK$12,950/month and a 15% bonus at the end of the contract. Retention incentive also to teachers staying for more than 2 years.

You won't be living a life of luxury but if you share a flat and live frugally, you can still save money every month.

Keep in mind that a large portion of the population in HK make about half of of 20K.

At most, at most, 650,000 individuals, less than 10% of the population, actually have a per capita of US$24,000 or a little over 15K/month. Out of 3,041,000 employed workers, only 1/3 earns between HK$108,000 a year (USD13,846) and HK$241,000 (US$30,897) a year.
