Well considering your age and experience, I guess it's not horrible but it's definitely on the low end. On the other hand, it gets you here and you'll have a better chance of finding something better later on.

A starting NET teacher would have about the same salary but will have plane tickets, baggage allowance, an extra housing allowance of HK$12,950/month and a 15% bonus at the end of the contract. Retention incentive also to teachers staying for more than 2 years.

You won't be living a life of luxury but if you share a flat and live frugally, you can still save money every month.

Keep in mind that a large portion of the population in HK make about half of of 20K.

I think many people in Hong Kong with that salary bracket you mentioned live with their parents.

Do you have the right to work in Hong Kong? I'm surprised you would get a visa for that job...

At most, at most, 650,000 individuals, less than 10% of the population, actually have a per capita of US$24,000 or a little over 15K/month. Out of 3,041,000 employed workers, only 1/3 earns between HK$108,000 a year (USD13,846) and HK$241,000 (US$30,897) a year.

We're not just talking about kids staying with their parents here...
