Fair compensation?

Hi All,

For an I.T. professional, with 12 years experience, is 35K HKD/month a fair compensation? Package includes 4 weeks vacation, medical insurance but no extra $$ for accommodation.

Thank you in advance.
c.e.

Industry and position would help us answer the question- years of experience are not so relevant to salary.

Sounds low but it really depends on the position, I wouldn't move to HK just for that amount of money.

That being said, there are plenty of other good reasons to come over here...

Industry: insurance but I work in database design. Worked as project manager and system's architect in Canada, on managerial position. My company arranged the transfer ... and it's a big, international company.

Thanks.

What would you say is a fair amount (or package)?

Thanks.

It seems to me that 50K/month would be more reasonable for an expat coming over.

At the end of the day, you have to compare what you are making/saving wherever you are and what you might save here, whether this will lead to advancement and the enjoyment of living and experiencing life in Asia.

I am also in IT (dev) and recently came to Hong Kong from Canada. For someone with your experience, 35K per month does seem a bit low. In Hong Kong, jobs in investment banks or anything related to financial services tend to pay a lot higher, regardless of position. I am talking 50-100 %. So you kind of have to keep that in mind when comparing compensation.

Can someone recomend a good agency or another way to find a job?

Thank you.

In all the answers I did not see one telling you, it is not so much about earning, of course a minimum you need. It is more about your life-style; If you like to go out, live in that area, and hangout where "it" is happening 80,000 would be soso. But if you live a little low profile, a little outside Central, you can easy do that with 35,000 and even pay 15,000 rent... HK is about what you want, like any Global city more or less, good luck
