China visa - strange ruling

Have had a multiple entry business visa for China for the last four years. I knew I wouldn't get another one for this year so applied for a double entry business visa.

Rejected on the grounds of "you're a professor, professors don't do business". "And you're an immigration officer, they don't do thinking" would have been my response had I not wanted to continue visiting China.

Anyway, they gave me a double entry tourist visa so no harm done. Naturally I will just be visiting tourist sites when I am there not wanting to break any rules . But if anyone can explain how giving me a tourist visa instead of a business one helps with security (which is what I thought this was all supposed to be about) then answers on a postcard please.

hauling people away at SZ

well not really but was there a couple of times including last night and in a short space of time I saw several people led away to what seemed to be interview rooms -gweilos ,gweipos and others on both HK and Chinese borders -ssemed to be after their passports or I.D were produced and examined ? not a happy thought ...of course was rubbernecking to see what next but to no avail...

Hullexile - This has always been my line of thought too. IF I was going to go to the olympics to cause trouble I would have a hotel to stay in and would therefore be able to get a visa....... My argument transfers to the airline security - IF I was going to be a suicide bomber I would max out a credit card and go first class where I get a glass glass and a steak knife to eat my steak with - I certainly wouldn't be sitting in economy..... I did mention this once when my tweezers were confiscated at security control, also adding i could do more damage with my 4inch heels than a pair of tweezers. They were still taken away and I was prob lucky I was allowed on the plan at all - let alone with my boots stll on

Anyway AM with you - the whole vise thing makes no sense. I got a business visa for a year and have been through to Shenzhen weekly for the last 6 weeks getting tailoring done and art at Dafen. will be going on Sat and next Fri ( after the 1st July scare) - will report back any activity.

There are a couple of rumours that multi entry visas will be revoked at the border from 1st July. I was in a Dutch and an american newspaper - apparenlty. There are a couple of internet stories about it. And a thread on geo .....Could be nothing though. hey what they do next at the border is anybodies guess....

Not sure if it is supposed to be tourist visas or business.... again time will tell.
