5 kids moving to HK My husband and I have an opportunity to move to HK. We have 5 kids (a lot by any standards but insane for HK). Their ages are 6,5,4,2, and new born. Does anyone have any advice on the best family place to live? I have heard DB. Would 5 kids be managable in DB? What sort of cost would we be looking at in rent for a 4 bedroom modest apt.? Any ideas on which complexes would work best? Thank you for your help, Cassie

I live in DBay, and from your requirements, I suggest you go to a property agent, and fast. I can recommend Century 21 Newcourt Realty. Email: discobay@netvigator.com, or phone 2987 9729. I don't know of many four bedroom flats, but the few I see listed are about 14-15Million, and rentals are going to cost around $60K month. Others on here will have more details. Good luck.

5 kids would be very managable in Db, there are lots of play grounds, play groups and kindies as well. If you are on a budget have a look at the larger units or the combined units in the Greens (a group of high rises along Discovery Bay Road). Look at [url=http://www.gohome.com.hk] for floor plans and to get an idea about rents. Last edited by elle; 24-06-2008 at 09:27 AM.

Is it hard not having a car? Is it expensive to join the sailing clubs etc? Are nannies popular?

nannies/helpers etc. are very common in hk. there are families that have a helper for each of their kids. and the mum stays at home

You do not need to own a car while living in DB. You can always use the hire car service, and bus transports are highly reliable, plus all buses have room for prams. You will need a nanny, but can't recommend an agency, since we don't need their service. However, be aware that living in DB does not guarantee you access to the DB school system, so your kids may have to travel out to other districts. The closer you are to the plaza may be more helpful. Try to get into Seabee Lane. Membership in all organizations are open to residents. You will find the Marina Club very warm and active. Your children will love it.

Thank you again. This is most helpful to me in weighing our decision.

Not sure on your budget or allowances, but school and kindergarten fees are not cheap.
