Hi,

I have LOTS of very specific questions, but they might get confusing! My hope is that someone has experience with what I want to do. In changing countries previously, I know how many people get answers that sound good, but are just plain wrong. Don't want to arrive HK and find I'm playing by the wrong rules!

To start....

If a person has a visa to work for company X expiring 2006 - can they do ANYTHING other than work for company X? Can they register a company and operate it? (This is probably yes, if certain conditions are met...)

If a person starts a company, they can sponsor themselves for a visa - like in other contries, right? What are the restrictions?

Yes, I'll need to speak to the registrar of companies...but experience and "I'm doing that" type feedback will very valuable.

i dont think it is a clear cut as open your own business and sponsor yourself.

back in 2001 i was involved with a new company and the director owner did the same thing he had been in HK in and out for lot years anyway and im sure he had ever held residence.

Anyway im not sure why or the reason but his visa was rejected by immigration. i think it night have something to do with the amoount you invest i believe 6mill hk and if not that much then you would need to eait until the company had established itself long enough.

Also on a work visa i think the first year you cant work for someone else but after a period of time i know people who have done it but you need to get permission from immigration but at that time the 2 people i knew who did it had been in hk on work visa for over 3 years.
