@boris as you might have noticed the PC/ gaming/ hardware industry is moving at a face pace just like what happens to the two GPU giants ATI & Nvidia - they seem to be releasing new cards every 2 months so a time table is needed & also the budget for it so that we can configure a Bang for Buck kickass machine! IF that is what your looking for

otherwise a PS3, Xbox360, Wii, PSP, NDSL setup would be the answer

The development is going on now - so answers should reflect this. We will not just be operating home games units ( Wii etc ) and specialised console games. We will do MMORPG with a fast ( fastest ? ) connection to get nerds out of their bedrooms and into our facility.

Its going to ( hopefully ) be an all you can eat digital buffet. What's the point of doing anything less?

Fastest meanest machine (within reason);

Quad Core CPU
4Gb RAM (32-bit Windows can't use more, and 64-bit Windows is incompatible with most games)
GeForce 9800GT (or two of them setup in SLI if you're silly)

That's basically it. But you'll have to maintain the PCs and upgrade those video cards every 6 months to keep them on the cutting edge. Though, most MMORPGs work perfectly with 3+ year old video cards.

The advantage with the PC though, is that you can have 10 games (or MMORPG clients) installed, the user just goes on the PC, runs the client and plays the game of their choice - with the consoles, you have the hassle of disk swapping or leaving the console permanently running just one game.

As for "the fastest connections possible" for the MMORPG players, speed isn't really the issue, it's lag. Which is a combination of distance of the PC from the game servers (lag connecting to a US server is always bad no matter how 'fast' your connection) and the bandwidth of the connection (10 people sharing the same pipe will obviously start saturating it).

Not your fault, but the 'Intel® Core™2 Extreme processor' is Intel's quad core gaming CPU.

I know, "Core 2" would imply it's a dual core like the "Core 2 Duo", but it's basically two "Core 2 Duos" stuck together.

Intel don't call their quad cores "Core 4".

The comparison you mean, was probably Intel "Core 2 Extreme" (quad core) versus Intel Xeon (quad+ core), which makes sense, as Xeon is more designed for servers and such rather than desktop gaming.

Not sure about a bunch of deep single player games... if they're just there playing for 30 minutes, they're not going to be jumping into Final Fantasy, MGS or GTA much.

I'd focus on multiplayer and arcade-style games - racing, football, FPS, being the obvious choices that work well in quick bursts both solo and in groups.
