SPCA vets- health care?

Hi SPCA is a big and well-established organisation in Hong Kong, but I've heard some negative comments about their vets. Any posters here can share their experience with SPCA?

Thank you!!

Hi, I have had very good experiences, all the vets I have encountered there are professional and knowledgeable. I have taken my 2 cats and dog there a few times for jabs, spay, etc. They do tend to push the SPCA agenda of having your animal spayed/neutered, but thats not always a bad thing!

Another good aspect of using their service is a large portion of the fees goes back into the SPCA to continue their other work, which is nice to know

Hope this helps

As an aside, I am quite amazed at some of the advice given out by some vets here in HK. I stopped into the local vet the other day to buy some heartworm medication for my dog, and was told by the vet that I shouldn't let my dog meet other dogs until he was 6 months old. This sounded completely crazy to me, and I have consulted 3 other vets since (1 of whom was from the SPCA, the other 2 are friends) who have all said that is complete rubbish, and in fact dangerous advice, dogs should be socialised as soon as their vaccinations are complete to ensure they are used to other dogs and people.

I really wonder why vets in HK are giving out such strange advice (other people I know have been told the same) and I wonder if this could account for the number of timid and unsocialised dogs that seem to be about here?

I've heard some negative comments about the SPCA vets as well, but actually I've only had positive experiences with them. I've only ever taken my dogs to the vet at SPCA for spaying, shots etc. and they have been fine. People don't like it because they'd like to have the same vet follow their pet but I think that is possible with advanced booking.
