| I saw a pet shop beagle last week in Tsuen Wan. It was $3800. It must have been nearly 5 weeks old. Too young to be like that. Did not look healthy. |

| i saw 2 in mong kok too, 3800 and 4800 but doesn't look healthy or happy! , I really dont want to go down that road u know buying from pet shop but the only breeder i found and yet to go check out his kennel , is soo expensive. have been ringing all the rescue places get send to voice mail and never get return call one of these day i'm gonna have to go down there to have a look. : talk to a Vet in mid level she doesnt recommend buying from breeder here and i try contact many breeder in australia, most of them dont want to ship oversea so is USA and UK. Will prob have to find excuse to go back to Melb for a months or so go to breeder and get puppy and ship it myself Ps. TBJ thanks for the photos your beagle is sooo adorable ! |

| the broken record... The OP stated "have been ringing all the rescue places"... so she has obviously considered adopting... now we'll see all the "is hong kong really a good place for dogs??" posts come out... Sorry CK, can't help you re finding a beagle pup. Good luck in your searching. You can sometimes be lucky with petshop pups - try buying a pup on the onus of a vet check - it isn't a guarantee, but it will give you a good idea if it is worth putting your heart into the poor little thing.... |

| Have you had a beagle before? They require LOTS of time and energy. I have a beagle here, but she is an old lady now. It would've been tough to handle in her youth. but if you have the time, they're great dogs and perfect size for HK. Big enough to go on long hikes in the country parks, but small enough to be an apartment dog. Good luck in your search. |

| I'm sure CK has done her research on beagles and know what she is getting into. She is asking where to get a beagle, not if she should get one. Quote:
I would agree with that. You have to be careful with the breeders here, there are many that do not care correctly for the pups and do not have good quality breeds. If you try to get a pup overseas that might be difficult and expensive. You need to have lots of documentation before you send the pup over, and if you fail to meet any of the requirements the pup has to sit in quarantine for months. There are companies that do it for you but you'll be paying at minimum around $8000HKD for them to do it. Try to bargain with the breeder you found after you have checked out his kennels. You might be able to have him come down on the price. If he has no documentation or registration for the pups, he has no basis for charging such an expensive price. | Sorry for being so blunt. Its just that everyone always asks that question if anyone is getting a dog. But everyone should indeed be informed about the breed before they make the commitment to get a dog. But remember, you cannot judge a dog by it's breed. They have many individual characteristics. People always summarize beagles as very high energy and always barking. I would say mine is somewhat energetic, and she very seldom barks. The barking is the main issue with the breed. You need to train them from an early age when it's not appropriate to bark. Unfortunately a lot of people cannot put up with it and abandon them. |
