Sure come along. It's 1:30pm this Sunday 6th July at Happy Valley (Grass Pitch Number 7 in the middle of the racecourse).

(Bring two tops - one red, one not-red - and suitable foots, but not full metal studs.)

I'm sure we can easily accommodate anyone who wants to come this weekend or next, it's rare that we get 100% turnout. If eventually we have more people than the 7-aside pitch can handle (which is about 16-20) we can just start booking 11-aside pitches. Though I find 7-aside more fun.

Sure. We're not playing strict positions, usually randomly swapping rush keepers, but if you want to be a fulltime keeper or whatever that's fine too

Yeah, sounds good. I've only started playing in the last few years (American) and I'm a lot better at keeper than outfield positions.

At the moment we're thinking about getting some custom kits made. There's a good shop in CWB that does them. We just need to pick the shirt colour (I was thinking orange or Aston Villa Blue?) and stick our logo on it...

These are some prototypes, evolving along a 'giant cock' motif...

what level of fitness/skills are you guys?

stats: i'm a smoker, but used to play indoor 5 a side in nyc. towards the start of the season you'd get 5mins of super heavy/quick running from me before i'd have to either take defense or switch out for a few mins break. towards the end of season i was able to essentailly play full 20min games without any breaks, though obviously i'd slow down.

haven't played full 11 a side/grass since i was 14ish...skill wise- i'm a decent shot/passer...but dribbling skills aren't the greatest...then again 5 a side= a whole diff. ball game!

anyways, i'm not the fittest guy out there, and not sure how good stamina would be on 11-side/full pitch, but would be interested in coming to play/get back up to fitness levels which will allow me to play a decent amt.

i only mention the smoking part cause it will restrict the lung capacity until i start using my lungs for something other than smoking cigs=)

(please save all the smokers suck comments...i've hread them all before!)

A few guys on our team smoke and have fag breaks at half time, seriously

It's totally mixed really. We have a few guys who are very fit and very good players ( I'm not one of them! ), and then... the rest of us.

Skill-wise, I'd say when our tactics come together, we're not too bad. Our first 'sort-of-competitive' match against a local league team we played quite well but lost 4-3. But put in a
better performance than them (well, more exciting, to their drab Spanish passing game).

I think I play a decent passing/through-ball and defending game, but my shooting's a bit shit at times cause I'm a short sighted spacker and I don't wear contacts on the pitch. Yay for messed up depth perception!

We're all getting a little better each week though.

I think the biggest concern is the heat. I was playing a few games back in March/April and I managed to run quite well for a full 90 minutes, and our team games in April/May weren't too bad either, but in June the heat has been extreme - easily 30 degrees+, sometimes just baking sun, sometimes ultra-humid sauna-like conditions. When it's a day like that (this Sunday will be 34 degrees under baking sun!) no one runs half as much. Or running frantically for the first 20 minutes then walking around the rest of the match, eventually collapsing.

But that's why it's better with more players - more substitutes, so we can have constant rolling substitutions if possible.

Basically the biggest problem this month is heat stroke.

Just a quick update: Football's at 1:30pm tomorrow (Sunday) at Happp Valley, pitch 7 in the middle of the race course.

But if you can't find the pitch, you can meet up with a group of us in Times Square at 1pm - just under the giant screen, out from Causeway Bay MTR exit A, you'll probably see a group of people wearing football shirts - that'll be us that will.
