| setting up company but getting married next year hi all i am thinking of setting up my own company (writing services) this year but am getting married next year (my boyf is a permanent resident). if i can work freelance on a dependant's visa without needing to set up a company, i am not sure about setting one up. however, if i need to register as a company anyway, i may as well do it... i am only setting up a company to get a visa really, so i may just get a job instead until i get married... any advice gratefully received, thanks |

| There is no guarantee that you will obtain a visa just by setting up a company - you have to meet various criteria, usually involving employing local staff, renting an office etc...which may or may not be what you have in mind. You are (to the best of my knowledge) able to work freelance on a dependent visa. Whether you will need a company set up or not depends on your situation - if it is just you working for yourself, you may want to register yourself as a sole proprietorship rather than set up a Limited company in HK. The later will result in further maintance costs aswell as having to file annual audited accounts. Although by it's very nature it does at least limited you liability to the value of the shares. In short - hold out for dependent visa before starting Freelance work if possible. |
