Work Visa

I have worked in HK for a year and a half and hope to apply for permanent residence one day.

My work visa is actually valid until the end of 09, but my current job will end mid-July. My new job will start at beginning of September. I am hoping to go on a nice long holiday :-)

Just one concern, if I leave HK after my current job finishes and before new one starts will I only be able to come back on a tourist visa? Will the holiday count as a break in the continuous residence required to one day get permanent residence?

Anyone had similar experience? Thanks for help!

David

your work visa is tied to your employer. your not allowed to switch employers.

your new employer needs to apply for a work visa for you. if you start the application process now, you may have your new visa granted before you leave on your holiday. however, i don't know when it would be effective and if there is a gap between the two that could mean starting your 7 years again...unless your new employer has the contract stating that you start earlier than september and then you take "holidays" for the time before september

As Cara says, you need to apply for the transfer of your sponsorship from your old employer to your new one. Until this is granted you may not start working for the new one. But ImmD seems fairly relaxed about you being here and coming in and out within the validity of your previous employment visa while you are applying for the transfer.
